We are excited to announce that Panda has been appointed as the waste management partner for Dublin Airport. Over the next five years, we are working together to deliver a total Zero-to-Landfill solution across all airport operations. This isn’t just a contract; it’s a shared commitment to making one of Europe’s busiest airports a leader in sustainability.

With over 100,000 people passing through Dublin Airport every single day, managing waste is a massive logistical operation. At that scale, every coffee cup, food wrapper, and portion of leftover food matters.

How We’re Transforming Airport Waste

Managing the waste of a “mini-city” like Dublin Airport requires more than just emptying bins. It requires cutting-edge technology and deep collaboration. Here is how Panda is delivering a best-in-class solution:

1. Smart Collection & AI Sorting

We are implementing “Smart Bins” that monitor fill levels in real-time. This allows us to optimise collection routes, reducing unnecessary vehicle movements in high-footfall areas like food courts. Once collected, our AI-based sorting technology ensures that every piece of waste is diverted to the correct recycling stream.

2. Improved Recycling Stations

To support the airport’s environmental compliance, we are increasing the number of multi-stream recycling stations across both public and staff areas. These stations feature clear signage, multi-language instructions, and QR codes to ensure correct disposal and maximise resource recovery at the source.

3. Turning Food Waste into Energy

Food waste is a major focus for a Zero-to-Landfill goal. We are installing on-site composting units for restaurants and lounges. Any remaining organic waste is diverted to anaerobic digestion facilities, where it is converted into renewable energy or high-grade bio-fertiliser for local farms.

A Shared Vision for Net Zero

This partnership is a cornerstone of Dublin Airport’s broader Net Zero ambitions. By providing full traceability from the moment a bottle is dropped into a bin to its final destination, we ensure the airport meets the highest environmental compliance standards.

As our managing director, John Brosnan, said:

“Partnering with Dublin Airport gives us the opportunity to demonstrate how innovative, zero-to-landfill solutions can operate at scale. Through smart collection systems, enhanced segregation, and collaboration with airlines and retailers, we will support Dublin Airport in achieving its sustainability goals while maintaining operational efficiency at one of Europe’s busiest airports.”

We are proud to be the team working behind the scenes to ensure that the gateway to Ireland is as sustainable as it is efficient. Because at Panda, we value waste.
