Supporting Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue in Their Next Chapter

At Panda, we don’t just talk about communities — we support them.

That’s why we were proud to step in and support the Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue (L.H.P.R.), a registered charity that has dedicated itself to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Ireland’s forgotten horses and ponies. From emergency rescues to school talks on responsible horse ownership, the team at Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue gives their time and expertise to protect and advocate for equine welfare across Leinster — all on a 100% voluntary basis.

A Charity Facing Change

For years, Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue operated from their rescue centre in Trim, County Meath, which was equipped with stabling, grazing, and facilities to provide injured and neglected animals with the care they desperately needed. However, the charity recently received difficult news: their lease would not be renewed, and the centre would have to close.

Thankfully, they’ve secured a new yard in Dunboyne, but before they could settle in and continue their vital work, the site needed a full clear-out. With limited resources and funding still down significantly after the impact of Covid-19, they faced a daunting challenge.

How Panda Helped

When we heard about the situation, we knew we could make a difference. By donating a 6 CYD Standard Skip, we were able to help L.H.P.R. with the essential task of clearing out their new site so they can start fresh and continue focusing on what matters most — rescuing and caring for vulnerable horses and ponies.

For the team at Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue, the skip was more than just a practical resource. It meant they could clear out an old storage room at their second yard, making much-needed space to move equipment from the yard that is closing down. This helped them take one big step forward in the transition and gave them breathing room to focus on the welfare of their animals.

The Ongoing Challenges

Running a horse and pony rescue is no small task. As Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue’s volunteers explained to us, some of their biggest challenges are:

  • Rehoming: Horses are expensive animals to keep, and with the rising cost of living, fewer people are in a position to adopt or rehome.
  • Volunteers: Caring for equines is a 365-days-a-year commitment, and finding dedicated volunteers is a constant struggle so the charity is always on the lookout for people who are willing to learn.

Despite these hurdles, their work makes an enormous difference. Currently, Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue has 13 equines in direct care and supports a further 160 in foster and adopted homes.

Looking Ahead

While there is still much work to be done, small steps like this donation help bring Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue closer to their long-term goals. By clearing out a large number of unwanted items and rubbish, the team has been able to make room at their new yard — a vital step in ensuring continuity of care for their horses and ponies.

Why We Support Initiatives Like This

As a company, Panda is committed to making a meaningful impact in the communities where we operate. Whether it’s through providing sustainable waste solutions or lending a hand to grassroots organisations, we believe in supporting those who work tirelessly to uplift others.

Seeing the dedication of the volunteers at this charity reminds us why community matters. Their mission reflects the values we hold close, and we look forward to seeing their next chapter unfold.

Together, we can build stronger, more compassionate communities and we are honoured to have played a part in supporting Leinster Horse & Pony Rescue’s journey.
