Congratulations on winning Panda’s Compost Champion competition! How did you hear about Panda’s Composting Championship?

Through a friend.

How long have you been a Panda customer?

17 years.

Why did you nominate yourself for the Compost Championship?

I was making a big effort to compost as much as I could, to help protect the environment, so I thought, why not nominate myself?

With the heat kicking in, have you adjusted your composting routine? Any hot-weather tips?

Keep your bin in a shaded area. Clean it between collections, especially in summer, as it gets used more when you’re gardening.

Was there a specific moment or reason that sparked your composting journey?

Yes, when I started getting charged extra for my black bin. You don’t realise how much waste you have until you need to ask for a second brown bin.

Have you always embraced recycling and composting, or was this a new journey for you?

I’ve always recycled, but composting was new to me until a few years ago.

What would you say to someone hesitant to start composting?

Try it. You’ll be amazed at how much waste you actually have, how much space you free up in your black bin, and how you’re helping the environment.

Any plans for your prize winnings that you’re excited to share?

Spending money for our holidays.

What’s your #1 tip for maintaining your compost bin, especially with summer approaching?

Use bin liners when possible, clean your bin regularly, and keep it in a shaded place.

Any funny compost fails, wins, or pet peeves you’ve encountered?

Walking to the compost bin in flip-flops and the bag bursting all over your toes is not a good look. My pet peeve is the smell of the bin in summer.

Thank you for sharing your journey! Here’s to making every scrap count. Stay tuned for more Champion stories!
